Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Enerdeal today inaugurated a new solar photovoltaic installation at Goodyear's sites in Colmar-Berg, with a total capacity of 7 MWp.
The official opening ceremony took place in the presence of Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism.
Signed in 2024, the project represents a total of 7 MWp of solar capacity installed at Goodyear's sites. It includes 5 MWp on the roofs of Goodyear's tire production plant and innovation center, and 2 MWp on a canopy structure covering the parking lot of Goodyear's innovation center. These installations are expected to produce approximately 6.5 GWh of electricity per year, which will be consumed directly at the Goodyear site. These solar installations are the fifth for Goodyear EMEA and the eleventh worldwide. They help the company achieve 100% renewable energy by 2040 across all its production sites.
Alex Schumann, Manufacturing Director Luxembourg at Goodyear, states: "Goodyear has set a global goal to transition its operations and manufacturing processes to fully renewable electricity by 2030 and fully renewable energy by 2040. Today's announcement brings us closer to this objective."
It now complements the previous installations already in place at the Goodyear site in Colmar-Berg, including the large-scale solar panel installation and photovoltaic carport at its test track, as well as the power plant on the roof of the mold factory.
"It is an honor for us to work with a major industrial player like Goodyear and to inaugurate this project. These photovoltaic systems enable the efficient deployment of large-scale solar capacity, generate significant local emissions reductions, and demonstrate how this type of collaboration can advance Luxembourg's energy transition. Producing renewable electricity directly where it is consumed also promotes energy efficiency and grid stability," emphasizes François Neu, Country Manager of Enerdeal.
"I commend Goodyear's commitment to photovoltaics since 2021. This new project, carried out in collaboration with Enerdeal, will produce approximately 6.5 GWh of renewable electricity per year, consumed directly at the Colmar-Berg site. Thanks to such initiatives, Luxembourg is making concrete progress toward its climate goals," declares Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism.
