Enerdeal, a subsidiary of the EDP Group and a European leader in distributed solar power generation, will install and operate solar panels under a long-term contract with Industeel, ArcelorMittal’s division specializing in the production of special-grade thick steel plates.
Enerdeal, a provider of solar energy solutions for businesses operating in Belgium, Luxembourg, and France, has been integrated into the EDP group since 2023 (a European leader in green energy production). It has signed a long-term contract with Industeel Belgium, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal specializing in the manufacturing of thick plates made from special steels for the energy sector and industry in general.
A 5.2 MWp photovoltaic power plant to decarbonize steel production in Belgium
As part of this agreement, Enerdeal will finance, install, and operate a 5.2 MWp photovoltaic solar power plant on the roof of the Industeel industrial site in Charleroi. This installation will allow Industeel to directly consume 100% of the electricity produced, thereby contributing to its ambitious goals of reducing carbon intensity by 35% by 2030 (compared to 2018) and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Thanks to this initiative, more than 1,000 tons of indirect CO₂ will be avoided each year, equivalent to the energy consumption of 1,250 households, while strengthening the site's energy autonomy and its resilience to fluctuations in the energy market.

Certified ResponsibleSteel since 2023, Industeel Belgium establishes itself as a key player in the circular economy by producing low-carbon steels through the recycling of scrap metal and the use of electric furnaces. The integration of locally produced renewable energy strengthens this sustainable approach and consolidates the position of the Charleroi site as a showcase for the XCarb® recycled and renewably produced approach led by the ArcelorMittal group.
A "as a service" model for a transition without initial investment
Enerdeal will fully finance the project and will ensure the operation and maintenance throughout the duration of the contract, on a service-based model. This allows Industeel to benefit from competitive renewable energy without any initial investment or additional operational costs.
