Ground-mounted solar power plants
Transform unused land into profitable solar power plants
Ground-mounted solar power plants make use of your unused land, such as brownfield sites, disused quarries, areas unsuitable for building, and motorway verges. EDP finances, develops and operates these power plants, from the planning permission stage through to long-term operation, in Belgium, Luxembourg and France.
Performance:
- 10,000 m² of land = up to 2 MWp
- Annual production: approx. 2,000 MWh
Why choose a ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant?
Ground-mounted photovoltaic installations offer unique advantages. They are particularly well suited to large-scale projects.
Advantages of ground-mounted solar plants
- Valorization of underused land
- Guaranteed optimal performance
- Simplified installation and maintenance
- Strong CSR visibility
EDP: from feasibility to operation of your ground-mounted solar power plant, all handled by a single team
Since 2009, EDP - Enerdeal has been developing and operating some of the most ambitious ground-mounted solar power stations in the region. Our expertise covers the entire project lifecycle: geotechnical feasibility, administrative processing of permits, financing (CAPEX or As-a-Service), construction and long-term operation. We have installed several hundred MWp and have a track record in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and internationally.
Our turnkey approach:
- Comprehensive feasibility studies: Geotechnical soil analysis, sunlight study, production potential assessment, optimal installation sizing
- Flexible financing solutions: Solar-as-a-Service (€0 investment) or direct investment
- Cutting-edge technical expertise: Team of engineers specializing in complex projects (difficult soils, network constraints, high MWp power ratings)

FAQ
The surface area required depends on the desired power output. As a general rule, allow approximately 1.5 ha (15,000 m²) per MWp (1,000 kWp) installed for a fixed installation.
The return on investment (ROI) for a ground-mounted solar power plant varies between 6 and 10 years depending on several factors: electricity prices (sale to the grid or self-consumption), the amount of sunshine at the site, the initial cost of the installation (fixed vs. tracker), and available subsidies.
With a lifespan of over 30 years, your power plant generates net income for 15 to 20 years after amortization. The "Solar-as-a-Service" offer provides an immediate return on investment, with savings from the first year onwards and no investment required.
Yes, installing a ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant requires a building permit because it is a new construction that changes the appearance of the land.
In Belgium, Luxembourg and northern France, a 1 MWp (1,000 kWp) ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant that is well oriented (south) and tilted (30-35°) produces an average of 1,000,000 to 1,100,000 kWh per year, or approximately 1,000 to 1,100 kWh per kWp installed.
In the south of France, yields can be up to 25% higher.
