The Luxembourg-based company, which is part of Europe’s leading provider of decentralized solar power, will install and operate solar panels under a long-term contract with the multinational plastics industry supplier.
Enerdeal, a provider of renewable energy solutions operating in Luxembourg and Belgium and part of the EDP Group since 2023 (the European leader in decentralized solar power generation), has signed a 20-year contract with the industrial group Husky Technologies. Under the terms of the agreement, Enerdeal will finance, install, and operate a 2 MWp solar carport at Husky’s site in Dudelange, Luxembourg.
A solar carport is a structure that utilizes the space of covered parking lots to install solar panels on the roof, thereby enabling the production of clean energy. In Husky’s case, more than 4,000 panels will be installed, allowing the company to directly consume the electricity generated, thereby supporting its sustainability goals. This project, with a capacity of 2 MWp, is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. It represents a significant milestone in Husky’s carbon reduction strategy, which is based on scientific approaches.
This initiative is expected to yield significant savings on electricity costs, while meeting the growing expectations of Husky’s customers and shareholders regarding green energy. The project also complies with increasingly stringent regulatory requirements for sustainable energy in the industrial sector. In total, the facility is expected to prevent the emission of approximately 926 metric tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to the energy consumption of more than 500 households.
Under this agreement, Enerdeal will fully finance the project and operate it under a long-term “as-a-service” model, which includes investment in, operation of, and maintenance of the facilities throughout the term of the contract. Profits from the project will be shared between Enerdeal and Husky. This solution will enable the customer to reduce costs and its environmental impact by decreasing its reliance on conventional energy sources.
“The ‘solar-as-a-service’ financing model enables our customers to quickly deploy renewable energy solutions, thereby meeting their goals for profitability and sustainability. We are proud to collaborate with Husky Technologies on this initiative, reinforcing their commitment to a more sustainable future,” said François Neu, Country Manager at Enerdeal.
“At Husky, sustainability is at the heart of our strategy. Integrating renewable energy solutions is a key step in reducing our carbon footprint. This solar carport project is part of our long-term vision of environmental responsibility and energy efficiency,” added Brad Selleck.
By generating a significant amount of renewable energy and avoiding substantial CO₂ emissions each year, this project exemplifies Husky’s commitment to environmental leadership through innovation. As Husky continues to advance its carbon neutrality goals, this project demonstrates how the company is actively implementing renewable energy solutions to support its sustainability ambitions.
Enerdeal has already installed nearly 300 MWp of industrial solar power in Luxembourg and Belgium.
